Ethiopia
As I sit down to reflect on the whirlwind of experiences that have shaped my recent weeks, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and purpose. My journey has taken me from the vibrant lights of the television studio as a Co-host of the TV show "Life Today" to the heart-wrenching realities of Ethiopia, where I witnessed the heartbreaking struggles of families grappling with hunger and malnutrition.
Week after week, I have the privilege of meeting incredible people, each with their own unique stories and biblical insights to share. From renowned authors to incredible pastors and powerful testimonies, every interview brings new perspectives and deepens my relationship with Jesus.
But amidst all the excitement, an opportunity arose that would alter the course of my life again. Life Outreach International asked me to join our team on a journey to Ethiopia (check out the video of the trip below), a country where poverty and hunger cast a long shadow over millions of lives. I asked Anita, my ministry coordinator, to join me on this adventure as well.
We were surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of wide-open landscapes and mountain communities that would be worth millions in the western world. But the truth was, we were surrounded with a crisis that tugs at the core of humanity.
For over 8 years, a severe drought has ravaged Southern Ethiopia, leaving rivers dry and tribes in desperation. Imagine rivers, the lifelines of communities, reduced to trickles, barely enough to fill a jug. Yet, amidst this, the people press on. Despite years of failed crops and lost cattle, the people persist, hoping against hope that the rains will return.
We were welcomed with open arms and genuine smiles, touched by the kindness and respect of people who, despite facing unimaginable challenges, found joy in sharing what little they had. Here, older siblings embody the role of caretakers, cradling their younger brothers and sisters, teaching us the profound meaning of responsibility and love.
But what struck our hearts are the stories untold – of children whose growth has been stunted by malnutrition, living a life far removed from the comforts many of us take for granted. No child here knows the luxury of a nearby hospital or medication to take care of even their basic health needs. They certainly don’t understand what it’s like to watch their favorite TV show, experience a restaurant meal, or the joy of playing in a pool with their friends. Their reality is a world apart, yet their smiles and shared laughter are ingrained in our hearts forever.
Our journey here was more than just a visit; it was another mission trip for me to be on with Life Outreach International to bring awareness to the voices of the unheard and to raise money for the long-term plans needed to make these communities sustainable.
Whatever journey you’re on today, may you find a renewed sense of purpose, courage and determination, to keep embracing ALL that the Lord has set before you. And remember, it’s more than worldly accolades or achievements that define us, but rather the lives we live in Christ and how those lives touch and make a difference in the world around us. Amen Amen Amen! God is faithful.
And just a thought; You can also help bring life and love to these precious people by donating to this incredible mission. Donate at https://lifetoday.org/outreaches/mission-feeding/.
